JIM FROMUTH, Pro Shop Consulting
Tennis Industry HALL OF FAME Inductee

One of the most synonymous names in Tennis Retail, Jim Fromuth, has been a leading figure in developing the key components to successful pro shop management ,  customer based relations and community service.

Fromuth Tennis, was co-founded by Jim and his father in 1972 in Reading, Pa.  Fromuth, who played high school and college tennis, brought tennis into the family company, then took it to the next level by committing to larger inventories and developing a distribution channel to move them.

Jim Fromuth has had a hand in developing new business models that helped serve retailers.  For the last 40 plus years Jim has been dedicated to the distribution of tennis and racquet sport merchandise to pro shops and independent retailers nationwide.  Jim and his Father sold the company to it’s present owner Pat Shields in 1991.   Jim continued on with the new owner as operations manager from 1991 until his departure from Fromuth Tennis in 2019 .

“I like people, and that’s what I am all about,” says Fromuth,  “I think the secret to dealing with people is to put yourself in their shoes. If I can understand what you need and what your challenges are, then it’s my job to come up with solutions.”

In 2018 Jim Fromuth, was recognized for his achievements and became the 14th inductee into the Tennis Industry Hall of Fame; following in the footsteps of the likes of Howard Head, Dennis Van der Meer, Alan Schwartz, Billie Jean King, Nick Bollettieri, Howard Gill Jr., Walter Montenegro, Sheldon Westervelt, Jim Baugh, Peter Burwash, Eve Kraft, Gene Scott, David Haggerty and Vic Braden.  He joined this celebrated list of industry inventors, founders, innovators and contributors with their names on a plaque on display at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I.

“Jim is one of the truly good guys in the business, and the ultimate professional,” says Greg Mason, president of Head USA Racquet Sports. “He really has the pro shop in mind. That’s always his priority.”

DAVE MEHARG,

Dave developed the Next Court, one court size for multiple racquet and paddle sports that was on display during the Racquet & Paddle Sports Show at the Orlando Convention Center in 2018 and 2019, held in conjunction with the PGA Merchandise Show.   A long-time industry veteran who has held executive positions at major court construction and supplier companies, since 2001 he has operated Putnam Tennis Courts, one of the oldest and most experienced tennis court construction companies in the country.  He is an independent design/construction/maintenance consultant who actually understands tennis from a player’s perspective.  Manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and suppliers don't always bring a player’s perspective to the project. David Meharg does.  Simply put, David is a life-long tennis guy. He grew up in a tennis family, has played consistently since age 6, and over his tennis life has coached tennis and also earned USPTA- PPTA and PTR pro certifications.    Suffice to say, David knows his way around a tennis court – especially what materials and techniques are proven most effective to create quality courts.
